Do wood screws hold better than nails?

Generally speaking, wood screws tend to hold better than nails because they create a stronger connection between two pieces of wood. When a screw is inserted into the wood, it creates threads that grip the wood fibers and hold the two pieces together more securely than a nail, which simply creates a friction fit. Additionally, screws are less likely to pull out or loosen over time because the threads create a more permanent connection. However, there are some situations where nails may be more appropriate, such as when working with very soft or porous wood, or when speed is more important than maximum holding power. It's also worth noting that the size and type of screw you use can significantly impact its holding power, as well as the type and condition of the wood you are working with.
